New Research Warns of Risks in Emerging Industrial Networking Protocols
New research highlights potential security gaps in an emerging family of industrial networking protocols known as Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). These protocols are increasingly used in operational technology (OT) environments to coordinate precise timing between machines and industrial systems.
According to the findings, some TSN protocols currently lack adequate protections. If left unprotected, attackers could potentially exploit them to disrupt operations or manipulate physical processes, such as machinery timing or coordination, within industrial and manufacturing environments.
While TSN adoption is still growing, the research signals an early warning for organisations building or upgrading industrial networks. As with many emerging technologies, security considerations can lag behind functionality and performance goals, leaving newly deployed systems exposed before protective standards catch up.
